Golf Courses in and Around Citrus County

Golf Close to Heritage

Citrus County proudly offers over 20 exciting courses in the surrounding area.- ranging from picturesque, executive courses to world class challenges. Located on the Gulf Coast of Florida, Citrus County is often referred to as the "Golf Coast". In fact, Golf Digest Magazine has ranked five of our golf courses in the top 100 courses in the States.

These five top ranked courses include Southern Woods Golf and Country Club, Black Diamond Ranch, two courses located at World Woods (Rolling Oaks and Pine Barrons), and El Diablo.

Southern Woods Golf and Country Club was nominated by Golf Digest Magazine as the Best New Private Course in 1993. Offering flat, wide fairways with thick rough, and large challenging greens, Southern Woods is located within Sugarmill Woods, a pristine "green-belt" community in Homosassa, Florida.

Black Diamond Ranch is a private, gated community with one of the most spectacular golf courses anywhere, offering 45 of the most amazing and challenging holes of golf you will ever experience. The golf course, designed by Tom Fazio is carved into an abandoned limestone quarry and provides some of the most breathtaking views and stunning landscaping a golfer could ever hope to encounter. With the famous quarry course, Black Diamond remains one of the top-ranked courses in the world.

In Brooksville you will find World Woods providing two of the most challenging 18-hole golf courses in the United States. World Woods offers a world class practice facility that was nominated by Sports Illustrated Magazine as "the best range in the world". Their Pine Barrons course advertises “the final five holes could be the toughest stretch in the South.”
Alongside this practice facility lays two courses both ranked in the Top 100. Rolling Oaks was ranked 63rd in 1999 and Pine Barrons was ranked 9th in 1999. World Woods is truly one of the most rewarding golfing experiences you will ever enjoy.

Other golf courses in the Citrus County area include Skyview at Terra Vista, and El Diablo Golf Club in Citrus Springs, the Dunes Golf Club at Seville, and Sugarmill Woods Golf and Country Club in Homosassa.

The Skyview golf course at Terra Vista is the newest addition to the Villages of Citrus Hills. The Skyview golf course is located next door to Heritage and sits on the second highest elevation in Central Florida. It has been said that Skyview may be the best "hidden secret" in Citrus County.

In Citrus Springs Florida, you'll find yourself being lured into the pits of El Diablo. Forcing you to bring your best game, this course is a challenge for the body and an incredible stimulus for the imagination. It snakes through majestic oaks, forests thick with pines and rolling hills. With a relaxing and unhurried atmosphere of dramatic elevation changes, fairways carved through rich and lush pine forests, bunkers so steep and deep you will think you are across the pond, and greens as fast and undulating as any in Florida.. Golf Digest calls El Diablo “the best new affordable public golf course in America”..

The Dunes, located just south of Citrus County in Brooksville, Florida, weaves through the naturally beautiful, densely wooded terrain. Using the naturally sandy soil and other local features, this course challenges the accuracy and consistency of the golfer.

Play Sugarmill Woods
The Sugarmill Woods Golf and Country Club is a sister to the Southern Woods Golf and Country Club, both located in Homosassa, Florida. Sugarmill Woods offers not one or two, but three golf courses.

The first is the Cypress Course, which offers narrow fairways and is heavily bunkered. Second is the Oaks Course. For those golfers who fret water, no fear here! This course is water free and is more open than the other courses.

Finally, there is the Pine Course. This is the longest of the three courses in Sugarmill Woods, and it demands accurate drives to avoid the many out-of-bounds areas.

Additional golf courses in the Citrus County area include the Citrus Hills Golf and Country Club, which offers two challenging courses (The Meadows and The Oaks), Citrus Springs Golf and Country Club, Lakeside Golf and Country Club in Inverness, Pine Ridge Golf and Country Club in Beverly Hills, which also offers two courses (an 18-hole and a 9-hole).

The Plantation Inn and Golf Resort and Seven Rivers Golf and Country Club both in Crystal River, Point O' Woods in Inverness, Rainbow Springs Golf and Country Club in Dunnellon, the Inverness Golf and Country ClubBrentwood Farms Golf and Country Club and Twisted Oaks Golf Club in Beverly Hills.
